Smart Home, Smart Locksmithing

November 23, 2018

Technology is moving fast.  We’re all aware of this.  Just think about how much time we spend on our phones or tablets.  How much we log on to different social media sites just to “check things” or to find out information.

There is new technology being developed and launched every second of every day.  It now affects how we live our lives.  How we operate and when we look to buy something new, this something new has technology embedded into it.

Smart home, Smart locksmith

Think about things like wireless headphones, to how we stream music.  How we can check in online at home before boarding a flight or how we can even purchase vacuum cleaners which pretty much do it themselves!

When it comes to the world of locksmiths, technology has not missed our sector either!  We now see key fobs being used instead of actual car keys or we see key passes being used in commercial properties to access areas and open doors.

This new technology is great.  Used and installed in the correct way it not only makes us feel safer in our own homes, as well as leaving our homes unattended, but it also makes our homes much more secure.

 For example, smart locks.

Smart locks are a great new addition to homes.  Not only do they let you come and go as you please, by simply using your phone or even voice recognition, but you can also monitor who is coming and going from your home when you’re not there!

Of course, this all depends on the types of smart lock you choose.  Some just allow doors to open and close by the use of your phone but others can even let you assign special privileges to the people you choose, such as family and friends for example.

 Then there’s CCTV.

This is a route a lot of people are going down at the moment.  Having CCTV wired to your front and back doors and even garage doors and then having these images available on your phone and tablet is proving very popular.

Taking this one step further you can also look to invest in CCTV peephole door cameras.  Allowing you to check from your phone or tablet who is at your door, without actually having to leave your seat!

Finally, should we now all be investing in smart security systems rather than regular burglar alarms?  As a quick response, no.  We’d recommend having some sort of alarm no matter what.  But what we want to highlight is the new technology that is out there if you are looking for something different.

A smart security system is one which allows you to have the ability to monitor, control and interact with your home from an app, which can be downloaded to your smartphone or tablet.  You get to see what’s going on, as well as have the ability to turn appliances, such as lights, on and off, all remotely.

Plus, with motion sensors, sirens and sensors, a smart home security system can offer great peace of mind!

Locksmiths, of course, have not been bypassed by technology.  On the contrary!  Helping to support it, manage it and make sure that it is not only installed properly but that it works and is suitable for each individual customer’s needs is what we do best!

Working out what you need and what you want is essential.  At Tyne Tees Locks, all of our team are fully trained and qualified and we regularly carry out security checks, offering suggestions and advice on how best to secure and protect properties.
