Nothing can be as troublesome and inconvenient as having your car keys locked inside your car. Luckily, you can rest assured that you will eventually be able to retrieve your keys from your car. Many businesses that specialise in helping people to get their keys from their locked cars.  Let’s take a look at some helpful tips that you can use when you are locked out of your car.

There are, in essence, three methods to get your keys out of your locked car yourself.

Wedge and Rod Method

If your car has a switch to unlock your car electronically, you can make use of the wedge and rod method. Take a wooden wedge or door-stop and use it to pry the door away from the car’s body. The best place to do this is in the top corner of your car’s door. When there is a small opening, insert a straightened hanger or thin rod that is long enough to reach the car’s automatic electronic switch to unlock the doors.

 String Method

This method works best on earlier model cars that have door lock posts.  Take a string that is at least 6 feet long and make a slip knot in the middle. Then, either push down the window as far as possible or gently pry the door open to be wide enough for the slipknot to go through. With some time and patience, you may be able to manoeuvre the slipknot over door lock’s post. Pull both ends of the string to tighten the slipknot’s grip on the post and pull up to unlock the door.

Hanger Method

Take a hanger, open it up and bend the point into a sharp hook. Next, force the hook in between the window and the weather stripping above the handle. When the hook is underneath the locking mechanism, rotate the hook so that it is facing you, and pull up. The may take some time and a few attempts. Make sure that you have a hanger that is sturdy and that won’t bend easily.
